Alcohol is a psychoactive drug found in beer, wine, and strong liquor. Its chemical name is ethyl alcohol, or ethanol. It is produced by the fermentation of yeast, sugars, and starches.

Alcoholism is a primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development. It is characterized by continuous or periodic drinking without any control, inspite of knowing its adverse consequences.
